Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

Ugh I know this feeling! My identity was stolen last year and it was a NIGHTMARE getting ESD to sort it out. Took me three months and I had to send in my passport, birth certificate, AND utility bills twice because they "lost" the first set. The adjudication is actually separate from the identity verification - they're two different departments. For the identity issue, you might need to go to a WorkSource office in person with your documents. That's what finally worked for me.

Going to WorkSource is great advice. I'd also recommend checking if your local library offers free notary services. When I had identity verification issues, sending in notarized copies of my documents seemed to speed things up. Call your local WorkSource ahead of time though - some require appointments now.

Thanks everyone for your help and advice. I'm going to try that Claimyr service tomorrow morning. I called WorkSource and they said they could see me next Tuesday for help with the identity verification, so at least that's something. I'm still submitting my weekly claims even though I can't log in (using the phone system). This whole experience has been so demoralizing - I've never needed unemployment before and had no idea it would be this complicated. I'll update once I hopefully get through to someone who can help.

Good plan! One more thing - document every call you make to ESD. Write down the date, time, who you spoke with, and what they told you. This can be super helpful if you end up needing to appeal anything. Hang in there!

One more important thing: eligibility determination and identity verification are two separate processes that happen simultaneously. Many first-time claimants get caught up in ID verification issues that can delay benefits. Make sure you've uploaded clear photos of your ID documents in your ESD account, and respond immediately to any requests for additional verification. This alone can save you weeks of waiting.

That's really good to know! I did upload my driver's license and social security card when I applied. Is there anywhere specific in my account I should check to see if the ID verification went through okay?

Check the "Notices/Letters" section of your ESD account daily. If there are any ID verification issues, you'll receive a notice there. Also look at your claim status - if it says "pending" with no further explanation, that's often related to identity verification.

just want to add that you should file a wage complaint with L&I regardless of what happens with ESD!! they can get you your unpaid wages plus interest and sometimes additional penalties. i got almost $4000 from my ex employer through L&I even though i only claimed about $2400 in unpaid wages originally.

Ok everyone - quick update! I texted my boss this morning with a formal request for my missing pay, citing the specific amount and due date. He just called me and admitted the business is probably closing and he can't make payroll. Said he'd understand if I quit. Going to send an official resignation email citing the unpaid wages as the reason and file with both L&I and ESD tomorrow. Thank you all SO much for your help! I'll update once I hear about my claim.

To answer your follow-up question - the best number to call is the main ESD claims center (800-318-6022). Make sure to specifically mention that you're calling about a "tax refund intercept refund after overpayment waiver approval." Using those exact terms helps get you to the right department faster. Also important: when you do get through, ask the agent to note in your file exactly when you requested the refund. This creates a timestamp that can be helpful if you need to follow up later.

Quick update for anyone who finds this thread later: I finally got through to ESD today after many attempts. The agent confirmed they will refund my intercepted tax return since the overpayment was waived, but said it could take 8-10 weeks for processing. She also mentioned they typically send paper checks for these refunds rather than direct deposit. I had to specifically request this - it wasn't automatic! Make sure you call if you're in this situation.

when i was on unemployment last winter i did this workforce thing at the community college for healthcare jobs got certificatied as CNA and they paid for everything plus my unemployment kept coming the whole time. you should check with worksource they helped me get started
