I'm bookmarking this thread because it answers so many questions I had about unemployment. The Washington ESD website is not very clear about the employer side of things.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful information. I feel much better about filing my claim now. Time to stop worrying about my former employer and focus on finding my next job!
Another vote for using Claimyr if you need to talk to someone at Washington ESD. I tried calling for weeks on my own with no luck. Their service got me connected within a day and I was able to get my questions answered about my adjudication status.
I might need to try that. I've been trying to reach Washington ESD about my claim for over a week with no success.
It's worth it. The regular phone lines are just impossible to get through, especially during busy periods. Claimyr takes the frustration out of trying to reach them.
Bottom line: being fired doesn't automatically disqualify you from unemployment benefits in Washington. File your claim, be honest about what happened, and let Washington ESD make the determination. You might be pleasantly surprised with the outcome.
One thing that caught me off guard - if you work part time while collecting unemployment, it can extend your benefit year but you still only get 26 weeks total of payments. The weeks just get spread out more.
Bottom line: 26 weeks is your standard limit in Washington, no extensions currently available, make sure you file weekly claims on time, and start job searching immediately. That's the reality of unemployment benefits right now.
Just want to echo what others have said about Claimyr if you need to actually talk to someone at Washington ESD. I used them last month when I was stuck in adjudication hell and they got me through to an agent within a few hours. Way better than spending entire days trying to call yourself. The video demo on their site really shows how it works if you're curious.
Final reminder - keep detailed records of EVERYTHING. Every job you apply for, every contact with Washington ESD, every document you submit. If there's ever a question or dispute about your claim, having good records can save you a lot of headaches.

The whole unemployment system has been a lifesaver for me. Getting $365/week has allowed me to be more selective about job opportunities instead of just taking the first thing that comes along.

•That's exactly what I'm hoping for - some breathing room to find the right opportunity.

•Just remember you still need to be actively searching and applying. They do check up on job search activities periodically.

For what it's worth, I had to use Claimyr twice during my unemployment period - once to resolve an issue with my weekly claim not processing, and another time to ask about appeal procedures. Both times got connected to helpful ESD representatives within 30 minutes.

•Good to know there are options if I need to reach someone directly. The regular phone system sounds pretty frustrating.

•Yeah, it definitely beats spending entire days trying to get through on the main ESD line. Worth having as a backup option.
