The Washington ESD system is just broken half the time. I gave up and went back to the debit card after trying for months to set up direct deposit.
Thanks everyone for all the suggestions! I'm going to try the Claimyr service since a few people had success with it. Will update if I get it figured out.
One more thing - make sure you keep checking your ESD account regularly for any messages or requests for additional information. They communicate everything through the online portal now and if you miss something it can delay your claim.
The system has definitely improved over the years but it's still not perfect. Just be patient with the process and don't hesitate to reach out for help if you get stuck. There are people here who have been through it all before.
One last tip - when you file your weekly claims, answer all questions honestly but don't overthink them. The system is pretty straightforward if you're genuinely looking for work and available to accept suitable employment.
Just want to add that if you need to contact Washington ESD for any reason during the process, calling first thing in the morning usually has shorter wait times. Or that Claimyr thing people mentioned seems to work well too.
Yeah, Claimyr was a lifesaver for me. Much better than sitting on hold for hours.
One thing I learned when I finally got through to Washington ESD (using Claimyr helped a ton) is that FUTA funding also supports the administrative costs of running the UI system, not just benefit payments. So it helps fund the whole operation.
Thanks everyone for explaining this! I was worried my benefits might get cut or something but now I understand that FUTA provides stable federal backing for the Washington ESD system. Makes me feel more confident about my claim while I'm job searching.

This whole system is so confusing. Why can't they just send you a letter explaining when you can file again instead of making everyone guess?

•Right? Like a simple notification that says 'your benefit year ended, here's how to file a new claim if you become unemployed again.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful responses! I'm feeling much more confident about filing my new claim now. Going to do it online this weekend and hopefully avoid the phone system entirely.

•I'll post an update once I get through the filing process in case it helps anyone else in the future.
