Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

Just wanted to add that filing for unemployment doesn't affect your eligibility for other benefits or job opportunities. Some people worry it'll show up on background checks or something, but it's completely confidential between you, Washington ESD, and your former employer.
That's good to know. I wasn't sure about the privacy aspects of filing a claim.
Yeah, it's protected information. Future employers won't know you collected unemployment unless you tell them.
Look, I get the anxiety about filing, but you've got bills to pay and you earned these benefits. Your employer will get notified - that's just how the system works - but they laid you off so they should expect it. Stop worrying and file today!

Just remember to keep detailed records of everything - when you applied, when you file weekly claims, job search activities. Washington ESD can request this information during audits.

Been there, done that. Layoffs suck but unemployment benefits definitely help bridge the gap while you're job hunting. Just follow the rules and you should be fine.

Don't be discouraged if your first payment takes a while. There's usually a one-week waiting period before benefits start, plus processing time for new claims.
A week waiting period on top of the severance delay means I won't see any money for at least 3 weeks. That's going to be tight financially.
I know it's tough, but once the payments start they're usually pretty reliable. You'll get through this period.
Last thing - keep track of all your unemployment income for tax purposes. Washington ESD will send you a 1099-G form at the end of the year showing how much you received.

just remember you have to report any work you do while on unemployment even if its just a day or two. they ask about this during the phone filing

One last tip - make sure you have a quiet place to take the call. The representatives need to verify a lot of information and background noise can make it difficult.
