I went through something similar and the key is just being honest and upfront with Washington ESD about everything. They're more understanding than people think when you're dealing with legitimate circumstances.
Bottom line - wait until you're medically cleared, document everything, and then file your claim. Washington ESD should approve it once you meet the able and available requirement. Good luck!
Thank you everyone for all the advice. I feel much more prepared now for when the time comes to apply.
Remember about Claimyr if you need help getting through to Washington ESD when you do apply. Makes the whole process much less stressful.
File immediately and then start your job search right away even though you don't technically have to log activities yet. The job market is competitive and the sooner you start looking, the better. Plus it gives you something productive to do while waiting for your claim to process.
One more vote for filing immediately. I work in HR and I always tell people who get laid off to file their claim before they even leave the building if possible. There's literally no downside to filing early and potentially missing out on benefits because you waited is just throwing away money.
For anyone still struggling to get updates on their claims, that Claimyr service has been really helpful for multiple people in this thread. Sometimes you just need to talk to an actual person to understand what's happening with your case, especially during adjudication.
I might try that. Been trying to call Washington ESD for two weeks to check on my claim status and can never get through.
Definitely worth checking out. The demo video on their site shows exactly how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ
Final update - my claim was approved! Took 4 weeks total but Washington ESD determined that performance issues without documented misconduct don't disqualify you from benefits. Thanks everyone for the advice and support. For anyone in a similar situation, don't give up and make sure to keep filing your weekly claims even during adjudication!
If you're worried about reaching the 26-week limit, start thinking about retraining or certification programs early. Some are covered by Washington ESD and can extend your benefits while you're in approved training.
Bottom line - you get up to 26 weeks of regular unemployment benefits in Washington if you qualify. Extensions are possible during high unemployment periods but aren't available right now. Focus on your job search requirements and keep good records of everything.

One more thing - if you're eligible for benefits, Washington ESD will send you a debit card for payments. Don't throw it away thinking it's junk mail! Happened to my neighbor and it was a hassle to get a replacement.

•Good to know! I'll watch for that. How long after approval does the card usually arrive?

•Mine came about a week after my claim was approved. It's in a plain white envelope so it's easy to miss.

•It's really not that bad once you get started. The hardest part is often just taking that first step.
