Pro tip: set up text alerts with your bank so you'll know immediately when the deposit hits. That way you're not constantly checking your account balance.
Keep filing your weekly claims even if you haven't been paid yet. I made the mistake of thinking I should wait until I got my first payment and it caused a whole mess with my claim. Don't skip any weeks!
Just remember that filing for unemployment is your right - you've been paying into the system through your paychecks. Don't feel bad about claiming benefits you've earned.
One last tip - if you have questions about how to report your severance on the application, there's usually a help section or you can call the technical support line. Better to get it right the first time than have to correct it later.
Final thought - remember that even if you can get both, you still need to actively search for work and meet all the other unemployment requirements. The severance doesn't change those obligations.
Just be patient with the whole process. Even when everything goes right it takes a few weeks to get your first payment. Don't panic if you don't hear anything immediately - the system is slow but it usually works eventually.
One final tip - after you submit your application, you should receive a monetary determination letter that shows your weekly benefit amount and how long you can collect benefits. Keep this letter safe as you'll need to reference it later.

This thread is super helpful. I'm in the same situation as OP was and now I know exactly what to do. Filing my claim tonight!

WASHINGTON ESD IS SO SLOW ugh sorry for caps but seriously they take forever to process anything. I filed 3 weeks ago and still waiting for adjudication to finish. At least I know I filed at the right time thanks to this thread.

•If you're stuck in adjudication that long, definitely try calling. Or use Claimyr if you can't get through - adjudication issues are exactly what they help with.

•Yeah I might have to try that calling service. This is ridiculous.
