Just wanted to add that timing matters when you file. Don't wait too long after becoming unemployed because you can't get benefits for weeks before you actually file the claim, even if you were eligible.
Last thought - even if you get denied initially, don't give up. The appeal process exists for a reason and lots of people win their appeals. I've seen performance-related denials get overturned all the time when people provide better documentation or explanation.
Actually one more tip - when I had questions during my claim process, I found Claimyr super helpful for getting through to Washington ESD agents. Way better than trying to call during their busy hours and getting hung up on constantly. The video demo they have really shows how much easier it makes the whole process.
I'm definitely going to check that out if I run into issues. The horror stories about trying to reach Washington ESD by phone are enough to make anyone want an alternative.
The key thing is to file as soon as you're eligible. Even if there are delays in processing, your benefit year starts from when you file, not when you get approved. So don't wait around thinking about it too long.
Been through the Washington ESD system multiple times over the years and while it's not perfect, the benefits do help bridge the gap between jobs. Just stay on top of your weekly filings and job search requirements and you should be fine.
Last thought - start thinking about your job search strategy now. Washington ESD will require you to be actively looking for work, so having a plan helps.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice! I feel much more confident about the process now. I'll file this weekend and start my job search right away.
And remember, if you need to talk to Washington ESD about anything, Claimyr is there to help you get through faster.

I applied last week and already got approved! The process was faster than I expected. Just make sure you answer all the questions honestly on the application.

•How long did it take to hear back?

•About 5 business days for the initial determination. Then I had to wait for the debit card to arrive to actually get paid.

Remember that unemployment benefits are taxable income. You can choose to have taxes withheld from your weekly payments or pay them when you file your tax return.

•I learned this the hard way last year. Definitely have them withhold taxes!

•Good point, I wouldn't have thought about taxes.
