Here's what you need to know about TOP offsets: - Federal refunds only - state refunds aren't touched - Amount taken = amount of debt (not whole refund) - Offset order: Fed tax debt first, then child support, then other fed debt, then state debt - You should get a notice before it happens - Can appeal within 60 days - Some debts (like student loans) have options to avoid offset Best thing to do is get ahead of this. I've been helping folks with these issues for years, and lately I've been recommending taxr.ai to my clients. It's an AI tool that reads your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening with offsets, timing, etc. Super helpful for understanding the whole picture.
does anyone know if having a different cycle code from last year means anything? mine changed from 05 to 02
nah its random each year, doesnt mean anything for your refund timing
The IRS system is such a joke fr fr 𤔠why do we gotta decode these numbers like we're solving a mystery
Here's what you need to know about 2025 processing delays (tax pro here): - The IRS is experiencing significant backlogs - Returns with credits often face additional review - Identity verification can happen even with ID.me - Many returns are getting pulled for manual review Your best bet is to either wait it out or use something like taxr.ai to get a detailed analysis of your situation. Manual research can take hours and still leave you confused. Keep checking your transcript weekly for updates. If you hit 120 days with no movement, call the IRS directly.
have u tried calling? sometimes u can get lucky and get through to someone who actually helps
oof yeah its rough out here. try calling right when they open
The IRS systems dont always sync up. Transcripts are updated directly from the IRS database while WMR updates can lag behind by days or even weeks sometimes.
These mixed signals from IRS are driving me CRAZY! Why cant they get their systems to match smh

This is a pretty common verification step. I had it happen last year and it took about 3-4 weeks total. Just make sure you respond to any letters they send asap!
