Meanwhile, I owed $312 in taxes this year and they cashed that check within 3 DAYS of receiving it. Funny how that works! They sure don't have any delays processing payments TO them... š
And they charge interest and penalties if you're even one day late paying them. But they can hold our refunds for months with no consequences!
FACTS! šÆ
Try checking your account transcript on the IRS website. It will show if they issued a direct deposit and to what account number (last 4 digits). You'll be able to see if they sent it to the wrong account or if it was never issued in the first place.
Great advice! The transcript shows WAY more info than Where's My Refund ever does.
THIS IS WHY I ALWAYS GET A PAPER CHECK! Yes it takes longer but at least I can track it with informed delivery and there's no bank issues to worry about. The direct deposit system is broken.
I logged into my IRS account and downloaded my transcript yesterday which showed some weird codes after my DDD. I uploaded it to taxr.ai and it actually explained everything in plain English! Turns out there was a partial hold on my refund that wasn't showing anywhere else. The tool told me exactly what was happening and what to expect. Highly recommend checking your transcript and using something to interpret all those cryptic codes!
What kind of codes were showing on your transcript? I'm going to try to access mine again today.
I had a TC 570 followed by a TC 971 which apparently means there was a review happening. The taxr tool explained that this specific combination usually means a 1-2 week delay beyond the DDD. Sure enough, my refund showed up exactly 10 days after my original DDD. The tool was spot on with the timeline!
psa: if u paid for your turbotax fees using your refund, SBTPG is holding your money hostage to earn interest. never do refund transfers!!! next year pay the fee upfront with a credit card and get ur refund directly from irs.
Have you checked your account transcript? Does it show a code 846 with a date of 2/28? If yes, you will most likely get it today. If it shows a different date or no 846 code at all, then something else is going on. The WMR tool is notoriously inaccurate and days behind the actual transcript. Also, double check that you entered your direct deposit info correctly when you filed.
You can get your transcript at irs.gov/transcripts but you need to verify your identity. The 846 code means "refund issued" and will have a date next to it. That's the official date they sent the money. Most banks including Chime sometimes deposit early but they're not required to - they can hold it until the official date.
UPDATE: my refund just hit my chime account! DDD was 2/28 and it came exactly on 2/28 at 3:42pm eastern. Hope everyone else gets theirs soon!

ā¢Age restrictions only apply to "qualifying child" dependents. For "qualifying relative" dependents (which is what OP would be), there are no age restrictions. They just need to meet the income test, support test, and residency test.

The IRS has a dependency assistant tool on their website that can help you figure this out: https://www.irs.gov/help/ita/whom-may-i-claim-as-a-dependent

ā¢I tried using that tool and it kept crashing halfway through. Classic IRS š¤¦āāļø

ā¢That tool is so confusing. It asked me questions I didn't understand and then gave me a result that contradicted what a tax pro told me.
