Be careful about counting on a specific timeline. I filed in March last year with additional documentation and thought my refund would arrive by June. The IRS ended up sending me a CP12 notice requesting even more information. This reset my entire processing clock. My refund ultimately took until September to arrive. Have you verified that your documentation was properly received? Did you include your Social Security Number on every page of the additional forms?
OMG I'M IN THE EXACT SAME SITUATION AND IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY!!! ๐ก Filed March 17th, had to mail in some health insurance forms, and NOTHING since then! WMR just says "still processing" for like 2 months straight! I've called the IRS like 20 times and can't get through to anyone. I need this money for car repairs and it feels like they're just sitting on it forever! Why is this system so broken?! The frustration is unreal.
I may have some encouraging news to share. After my identity verification call in February, I saw no updates for about two weeks. Then suddenly, everything updated at once and my amended refund was processed within 10 days after that. It seems that sometimes the system works silently in the background, and then all status updates appear simultaneously. Perhaps your case is following a similar pattern?
In my experience, identity verification for amended returns typically results in transcript updates within approximately 10-14 business days, though this can possibly vary depending on current processing volumes. The verification acknowledgment should generally appear as transaction code 971 with a specific action code, which essentially confirms your identity has been successfully verified. It's worth noting that the WMAR tool is somewhat notorious for delayed updates compared to actual processing status.
Isn't it interesting how the IRS systems don't communicate with each other in real-time? I've handled dozens of these cases professionally, and I've noticed that verification confirmation can appear in internal systems up to 7-10 days before taxpayers see any updates. Have you found that the processing timeframes vary significantly between filing seasons?
You need to submit Form 8379 (Injured Spouse Allocation) immediately if your ex-spouse has any federal debts that might trigger an offset! The April 15th deadline is approaching, and if you don't get this submitted, your CTC portion could be applied to their debts. The IRS won't automatically know about your divorce decree protections without this documentation.
FYI - The partial refund sitch is super common this yr. IRS is doing a 2-phase process for many returns w/ credits. Phase 1: Basic refund amt. Phase 2: CTC/EIC after verification. Avg wait time btw phases = 4-6 wks. No need to panic yet. Check your transcript for TC 570/971 combo - that's the verification hold code. They should send a letter explaining within 2 wks. Hang tight!
For South Carolina unemployment adjustment refunds, here's what I've gathered from community reports: โข Processing order: Based on original filing date (not state) โข Current status: Processing March filings for single filers โข Paper check timeline: 7-10 business days after transcript shows code 846 โข Common delays: Address verification (adds 14 days) โข Regional differences: Southeast processing center is 2 weeks behind Northeast โข Verification triggers: Returns with address changes or income discrepancies Most single filers with standard returns are seeing 8-10 weeks total processing time from original filing date to check receipt. The IRS isn't providing state-specific updates, but the pattern is consistent across regions.
Have you verified if your unemployment compensation was exactly $10,200 or less? The exclusion amount varies based on total unemployment received. For South Carolina filers, 78.3% of single filers with standard returns have received their adjustments as of May 30th according to the latest IRS processing statistics. Did you check your Account Transcript for TC 290 code with cycle date 20241905 or later? This indicates your return has been selected for the current processing batch.
This is incredibly helpful information! I didn't know to look for specific cycle codes. Just checked my transcript and I do have TC 290 with cycle 20241905. Now I know it's actually being processed!

I've been tracking amended return processing times for the past 3 years and your situation is unfortunately common. Here's what I've learned: โข Amended returns are processed in the order received (with few exceptions) โข ID verification is a separate process from actual return review โข Most amended returns are taking 12-18 months currently โข The IRS won't tell you what's causing delays I've found taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) incredibly helpful for understanding what's actually happening with my transcripts. It analyzes all those confusing codes and explains exactly where your return is in the process. Helped me realize my amended return was actually moving through the system when I thought it was stuck. Frustrating that we need third-party tools to understand what the IRS is doing with our money!

Have you requested your tax transcripts to check for any updates? I filed an amended return exactly 347 days ago, and while the Where's My Amended Return tool showed nothing, my transcript had 4 different updates that weren't visible anywhere else. Did you amend electronically or by paper? Paper amendments are taking exactly 16.5 months on average right now according to the last IRS operations report.
