According to irs.gov/refunds, processing should take 21 days max for e-filed returns. You're at 35+ days now. Has anyone checked if there might be identity verification issues? The IRS Operational Status page (https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations) doesn't mention any systemic delays right now. Maybe your return got flagged for manual review?
Hate to break it to you, but that 21-day thing is more like a suggestion than a rule š. The IRS is still digging out from their backlog. I've seen perfectly clean returns take 6+ weeks this season. Manual reviews are happening for the weirdest reasons too - had mine flagged because my W-2 employer EIN had a typo from THEIR end. The system is basically held together with digital duct tape at this point.
Isn't it interesting how the IRS has different systems that don't communicate well with each other? Your return is likely fine. Have you checked your e-file confirmation from your tax software? That's your proof the IRS received it. The transcript system often shows zeros until processing completes. Many returns are taking 30-45 days this year despite what the IRS claims. Patience is unfortunately the name of the game with tax refunds.
For those waiting on unemployment tax credits, here's what I've learned: ⢠Processing times are currently 8-12 weeks (not the usual 3-4 weeks) ⢠The "Where's My Refund" tool often doesn't show correct status for these credits ⢠Many people are seeing their credits appear suddenly without prior notification ⢠The IRS is processing these in batches based on filing date ⢠February filers are just now starting to see movement
According to the IRS.gov website, the "Where's My Refund" tool showing "still being processed" with a blank transcript typically indicates one of several situations: https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions. In your specific case with the IP PIN rejection and resubmission, the system is likely still verifying your identity before entering your return into the main processing pipeline. This extra verification step is not always reflected in the online tools. The blank transcript doesn't necessarily indicate a problem - just that your return hasn't moved from verification to actual processing yet.
Think of your tax return like a package in transit. Right now, it's sitting at the sorting facility waiting to be scanned into the system. The blank transcript is like the tracking number showing "label created" but not yet in the carrier's possession. I had a similar situation last year with an IP PIN, and what I didn't realize was that my address on file with the IRS didn't match exactly what I entered on my return (I had "Avenue" vs. "Ave"). This tiny discrepancy triggered additional verification. When I finally reached an agent, they confirmed this was the holdup and manually approved it. Two days later my transcript populated and refund was issued a week after that. Double-check that all your information matches exactly what the IRS has on file.
How did you even get through to the IRS? I've been calling all week and can't get past the automated system telling me they're too busy.
I used Claimyr.com to get through. It cost a few bucks but saved me hours of redial hell. They basically wait on hold for you and call when an agent picks up. Worth every penny because I was going crazy not knowing what was happening with my refund. The peace of mind knowing everything was normal was totally worth it.
The transcript issue is happening to a lot of people this year. I've seen at least 20 posts about it in the last week. The IRS verification system seems to be extra strict this year. One thing to note - if you requested a transcript by mail, it could take 5-10 business days to arrive. And the information on it might already be outdated by the time you get it.

Call the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040. I did that when my transcript wasn't updating. The agent told me my return was selected for review but nothing was wrong. My transcript updated three days later. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human.

Filed March 29. Transcript updated April 7. Refund deposited April 11. No issues. No contact needed. System works. Just slow. Early filers get faster service. April filers wait longer. Peak season now. Patience required.
