Per IRS Procedure 2021-23, unemployment compensation adjustments are being processed in phases, with simpler returns being addressed first. Have you received any correspondence from the IRS regarding your return being selected for review? The medical expense deduction you mentioned previously could potentially trigger additional scrutiny under IRC Section 213(d).
My sister had almost the identical situation last year - regular refund with unemployment compensation. Her regular refund came after 3 weeks, but the unemployment adjustment took nearly 9 weeks. Compare that to my coworker who got both within 5 weeks total. The difference seemed to be that my coworker had a very simple return with standard deduction, while my sister itemized with medical expenses (sounds similar to your situation).
Did you receive the actual notice yet? Check if it's a CP2000 notice. Those are proposed assessments. Not final bills. You can respond with documentation. The IRS might have received income information they think is yours. Could be identity theft. Could be a reporting error. Don't pay until you verify.
Based on your situation, here are some steps to take: ⢠Request your Wage and Income Transcript from the IRS to see what income was reported under your SSN ⢠Compare this with your actual income records ⢠Look for the specific tax issue on your notice (usually in a section called "Changes to your return") ⢠Respond before the deadline on the notice (very important!) ⢠If it's a simple error, you can often resolve it by mail with supporting documents Don't ignore this - the amount will only grow with penalties and interest if it's valid.
The Refund Transfer (RT) product that TurboTax offers uses SBTG as the Transmitter Bank. When your advance application is declined, the system is supposed to automatically revert to standard processing, but there's a technical disconnect in their API that sometimes causes the "no account found" error. This doesn't mean your refund is lost - it just means the RT product configuration in their system hasn't properly registered yet. The IRS is still processing your return normally, and you'll receive your refund via your selected disbursement method, minus the TurboTax fees. The frustrating part is that neither TurboTax nor SBTG will take responsibility for this communication gap.
I had this exact same issue last month! Filed with TurboTax on February 8th, opted for the 5-day advance, then got the message saying it couldn't be expedited. SBTG showed nothing for me either. I called TurboTax and they just kept transferring me around. Finally, after about 2 weeks of checking daily, my refund suddenly appeared in my bank account - directly from the IRS, not through SBTG. The TurboTax fees were still taken out though. So basically what happened was the advance got declined, but instead of telling us clearly, they just quietly switched it to regular processing. You'll still get your refund, but it'll come on the normal timeline.
Have you checked if you're on a weekly or daily processing cycle? This makes a difference in when you'll see updates: ⢠Weekly cycles: Updates appear Friday mornings ⢠Daily cycles: Can update any day ⢠Transcript updates before WMR ⢠Processing time post-verification varies by tax year Did the agent give you any specific timeframe or just say it was verified?
This is similar to when I had to verify for my 2022 taxes, but quite different from my 2021 experience. In 2022, it took about 12 days after phone verification to see my refund, whereas in 2021 it took nearly a month. The current processing seems faster than during the pandemic backlog years, so I'd expect you'll see movement within 2 weeks if your situation is similar to most standard returns.

Just went thru this exact thing last week! My DDD was 2/21 on transcript but didn't hit Chime til 2/23. Called IRS (nightmare btw) and they said once they release it, it's up to the banks. Chime usually posts 2 days early for regular paychecks but tax refunds seem diff. Don't stress yet - give it til EOD tomorrow. If nothing by Friday, then maybe start worrying. FWIW my friend w/ Wells Fargo had same DDD and got hers a day AFTER me, so Chime still faster than trad banks.

Be careful with Chime and tax refunds! Last year I had a similar situation and kept checking for pending deposits. When it finally showed up as pending, I immediately set up several bill payments based on that. Then Chime suddenly removed the pending status and the deposit didn't actually post for another 3 days! Apparently there was some verification issue. I ended up with $175 in overdraft fees because I'd scheduled payments thinking the money was guaranteed. Just a warning not to spend anything until it's fully posted, not just pending.
