am i the only 1 who thinks the whole tax system needs a complete overhaul? 🤔 its 2023 and were still dealing with this nonsense
I actually went through something similar a few months ago! First thing - definitely don't ignore it like others said. I called the FTB customer service line (be prepared to wait though) and it turned out there was a mix-up in their system. They had me confused with someone who had a similar SSN. The rep was actually pretty helpful once I got through. They asked me to verify some basic info and then cleared it up on the spot. Just make sure you have your last tax return handy when you call - they'll want to reference it to confirm your identity and income details. If calling doesn't work out, you can also respond to the letter in writing explaining that you believe there's been an error. Include a copy of your tax return and any other relevant docs. Sometimes written responses get processed faster than phone calls, depending on how busy they are.
This is really reassuring to hear! The similar SSN mix-up thing makes total sense - I bet that happens more often than people realize. Thanks for sharing your experience and the tip about having the tax return ready. Did they give you any kind of confirmation number or paperwork to show it was resolved?
This is so stressful! I had a similar issue last year where they claimed I owed money despite having proof of payment. What really helped me was creating a timeline document with all payment dates, confirmation numbers, and any correspondence. Also, when you call, ask for a supervisor right away if the first person can't help - don't waste time with someone who doesn't have authority to fix it. The whole process took about 6 weeks to resolve, but they did eventually clear everything up and removed the lien. Stay strong and keep all your documentation organized!
idk why they make this so complicated. its not like were trying to get away with something. just tryna live our lives smh
Just went through this process last month! You definitely don't need a driver's license - I used my lease agreement, two utility bills (electric and internet), and a bank statement showing my new address. The key thing is making sure all the dates are consistent and recent. Also, if you're dealing with California FTB specifically, they're pretty reasonable about accepting standard residency documents. One thing that helped me was organizing everything in a folder with clear labels - made the whole process smoother. Hope this helps!
Just went thru this last year. Whatever you do, DON'T ignore any deadlines they give you. Those penalties stack up fast! 💸
@Muhammad Hobbs, I just went through this exact situation with my LLC last year! The key thing is to act fast even without notices. Call the FTB business line at (888) 792-4900 and ask specifically for the "LLC Suspension Department." When you get through, have your EIN ready and ask them to pull up your account status. They'll tell you exactly what's missing - usually it's the annual LLC fee ($800) and any unfiled tax returns. Don't be surprised if there are penalties on top of the base amount. The good news is you can often get penalty relief if you have reasonable cause. Get everything in writing and follow up if they promise to mail you anything - their mail system can be slow. Good luck! 🍀

Have you checked your business entity status on the Secretary of State website? Sometimes the FTB and SOS don't communicate well, and your business might actually be active there.

I went through something similar last year! The FTB had my LLC suspended for over 18 months despite submitting all the paperwork correctly. What finally worked for me was sending a certified letter with copies of all my documentation (revival certificate, payment receipts, etc.) directly to their Sacramento office. Include a cover letter explaining the timeline and requesting immediate action. I also cc'd my state assemblyman's office - sometimes a little political pressure helps move things along. Within 3 weeks of sending that letter, my business was finally revived. Don't give up - the squeaky wheel gets the grease with these agencies!
