UPDATE: I finally got this resolved! Used Claimyr to reach an EDD rep who confirmed there was a payment delay between EDD and Money Network. They manually released the payment and it showed up on my card within 3 hours. Thanks everyone for your help!
Glad you got it fixed! For future reference, the normal timeline is: - Certify on Sunday - System processes and shows 'paid' by Monday afternoon - Money appears on Money Network card by Tuesday evening If it ever takes longer than that again, don't wait - call right away because something's wrong.
Great to see this got resolved! For anyone else experiencing similar delays, here's what I've learned from my own experience and helping others in this community: **Red flags that indicate you should call immediately:** - UI Online shows "paid" but no funds after 3 business days - Money Network card balance shows $0 when EDD shows payment processed - You get a "payment issued" text but nothing on your card **Who to call first:** - If UI Online shows "paid" → Call Money Network first (they can see if there's a hold) - If UI Online shows "pending" → Call EDD first (eligibility issue) **Quick tip:** Before calling anyone, check your Money Network transaction history online - sometimes payments show there before they're available to spend. The fact that so many people are having similar issues suggests there might be ongoing technical problems between EDD and Money Network systems. Hopefully they get this sorted out soon!
This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I'm new to unemployment benefits and posts like this really help me understand what's normal vs. what needs immediate attention. The distinction between calling Money Network vs EDD based on whether it shows "paid" or "pending" is something I wouldn't have known. Saving this info for future reference - hopefully I won't need it, but it's good to be prepared. Really appreciate how supportive this community is for people navigating the EDD system!
Just wanted to add that if you do decide to appeal the overpayment, make sure you keep paying on the payment plan while the appeal is pending! I made the mistake of thinking I could stop payments during my appeal process and they immediately canceled my payment plan and started collection actions. The appeal and payment plan are completely separate processes. Also, if you win your appeal, they'll refund any payments you made, so you're not losing money by continuing to pay while appealing. Learned this the hard way after my payment plan got canceled and it took months to get reinstated!
That's really important to know! I was actually wondering about that exact scenario. So even if you're appealing, you still have to keep making the payments? That seems kind of unfair - what if you win the appeal and it turns out you didn't owe anything in the first place? But I guess it's better than risking having the payment plan canceled. Thanks for sharing your experience - definitely saving me from making that same mistake!
This whole thread has been a lifesaver! I'm in almost the exact same boat - got an overpayment notice for $890 three weeks ago, set up a payment plan, and have been going crazy trying to figure out where to actually pay. Like everyone else, I kept looking in UI Online and couldn't find anything. It's absolutely mind-boggling that they make you set up the plan online but then you have to hunt around for completely different ways to actually make the payments! @Serene Snow that electronic payment system link is gold - I had no idea that existed. Going to try that first since it sounds way more reliable than mailing checks and hoping they don't get lost. @Lim Wong thanks for the heads up about keeping payments current even during appeals - that's definitely not intuitive but makes sense given how strict they are about everything. One question for the group: has anyone had issues with the electronic payment system taking longer than expected to process? My first payment is due next week and I'm paranoid about timing. Should I give it a few extra days or does it usually process pretty quickly?
This is such helpful information! I'm actually in a similar situation - my benefit year ended in January and I had to file a new claim in February. I was really confused when my first week showed as PAID instead of the usual waiting period. I've been worried for weeks that EDD made a mistake and would eventually ask for the money back, but reading all these responses makes me feel so much better. It sounds like this temporary policy change is helping a lot of people who are transitioning between claims. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - this community is so valuable for figuring out EDD's confusing processes!
@Diego Chavez I m'so glad this thread helped ease your worries too! I was in the exact same boat - stressed for weeks thinking EDD would eventually come after me for that payment. It s'crazy how they implemented this policy change without any clear public announcement. Makes you wonder how many people are out there still worrying unnecessarily like we were. This community really is a lifesaver for navigating EDD s'maze of confusing policies and system glitches!
I'm dealing with the exact same situation right now! Filed a new claim in early March after my previous one expired, and just like you, my first week went straight to PAID status instead of the usual waiting period. I've been checking my account obsessively wondering if this was some kind of system error. Reading through all these comments is such a relief - sounds like EDD is actually doing this intentionally for people in our situation. I guess the lesson here is that EDD changes policies all the time without making big announcements about it. Thanks for posting this question because I never would have known this was happening to other people too!
@Oliver Becker Yes! That obsessive account checking is so relatable - I was doing the same thing! It s'honestly frustrating that EDD doesn t'communicate these policy changes better. Like, a simple notice on their website saying temporary "waiting period waiver for certain claims would" save so many people from weeks of anxiety. I m'just grateful for communities like this where we can share experiences and figure out what s'actually happening. Hopefully this temporary policy helps more people who are already struggling financially during job transitions!
Another tip for anyone dealing with utility shutoffs - most utility companies are required to offer payment plans even if you don't qualify for assistance programs. I was behind on my gas bill by $600 and PG&E let me set up a 6-month payment plan with no down payment required. They can't shut you off while you're on an active payment plan as long as you keep up with the monthly amount. Just call their customer service and ask about payment arrangements. It bought me time to get my EDD verification sorted out and apply for the discount programs.
This is really helpful advice! I had no idea payment plans were an option even without qualifying for assistance programs. When I called SoCal Edison yesterday they made it sound like I had to get approved for CARE or my power would get cut off. I'm going to call them back today and ask specifically about payment arrangements. Thanks for sharing this - it could really help people who are waiting on their EDD verification or don't qualify for the discount programs.
For anyone still struggling with this - I just went through the same process last month. The EDD Verification of Benefits letter from UI Online worked perfectly for my SDG&E CARE application. One thing I learned is that if you're also applying for other assistance programs (like food stamps or rental assistance), you can use the same letter for multiple applications. Just make sure to save/download multiple copies since some programs want you to upload it to their portal while others want you to email or mail it. Also, if your weekly benefit amount changed recently due to a new job or reduced hours, double-check that the letter shows your current benefit amount - mine was showing an old amount from before my hours got cut and I had to wait a few days for it to update in the system.
That's really smart to save multiple copies! I didn't think about needing it for other programs too. Quick question - when you say your benefit amount changed, did you have to do anything special to get the letter updated or did it automatically refresh after a few days? I'm worried because I just started a part-time job and reported it to EDD, so my weekly amount might be different now.

Update: I certified this weekend and reported my earnings exactly as explained here. My payment was processed and I received $118! (Slightly different than the $120 calculation but close enough). Thanks everyone for your help!

•Great! The $2 difference is likely due to EDD rounding in their system. Glad it worked out as expected.

Congrats on getting it sorted out! That $2 difference is totally normal - I've noticed EDD's system sometimes has slight variations in calculations, probably due to rounding or how they handle cents. The important thing is you got the partial benefits you were entitled to. For anyone else reading this thread, this is a perfect example of why it's so helpful to understand the formula beforehand. You knew what to expect and could verify the payment was correct. Keep documenting everything in case you need it later!

•This is such a helpful thread! I'm new here and dealing with a similar partial benefits situation. Really appreciate everyone breaking down the math step by step. I was panicking thinking I might not qualify for anything, but now I understand how the calculation works. Going to bookmark this post for reference when I certify next week. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences!
