I'm also waiting for the direct deposit option and this thread has been super helpful! One thing I wanted to add for anyone dealing with the Money Network card in the meantime - if you need to transfer money from the card to your personal bank account, you can do it through the Money Network mobile app or website for free (though it takes 1-3 business days). There's also an option for instant transfer but that comes with a fee. I've been using this method to move my unemployment payments to my main checking account so I can pay bills and manage my finances normally while waiting for direct deposit access. It's not as convenient as direct deposit but it beats having to withdraw cash from ATMs all the time. Just make sure to link your bank account in the Money Network app first - the verification process takes a day or two.
This is exactly what I needed to know! I just got my Money Network card yesterday and was dreading having to use ATMs for everything. I had no idea you could transfer the funds directly to your bank account through their app - that's a game changer while I wait for direct deposit access. I'm definitely going to set this up right away. Thanks for the tip about the verification taking a few days, I'll get that started now so it's ready when my first payment hits the card. You just saved me so much hassle!
I've been following this thread closely since I'm in the exact same situation as the original poster. Just wanted to add that I called the EDD customer service line yesterday (after waiting 2.5 hours on hold) and the rep confirmed what everyone here has been saying - the direct deposit rollout is happening in phases and there's no way to expedite access for your account. She also mentioned that they're prioritizing accounts that have been active the longest, so if you're a newer claimant like me (just approved last month), we'll likely be in one of the later batches. The rep suggested checking your UI Online account every Monday since that's when they typically push out the updates to new batches of accounts. One more thing - she warned me that there have been some phishing emails going around claiming to be from EDD about direct deposit setup. The legitimate notification will ONLY come through your UI Online message center and your registered email address, and it will never ask you to click links to set up banking info. Just be careful out there!
Thanks for calling and getting that official confirmation! That 2.5 hour wait sounds brutal but the info was definitely worth it. I'm also a newer claimant (approved just 3 weeks ago) so it sounds like I'll be waiting a while longer. Good to know about checking every Monday - I'll add that to my routine. And wow, thanks for the heads up about the phishing emails! I hadn't even thought about scammers targeting this, but of course they would. I'll make sure to only trust notifications that come through the official UI Online system. Really appreciate you taking the time to call and share what you learned with everyone here!
Wow, what a relief that your card finally arrived Faith! This thread is such a great resource for anyone going through the same stress. I went through this exact situation about 6 months ago and I remember checking my mailbox obsessively every single day. The plain envelope thing is so true - I almost threw mine away thinking it was junk mail! For future reference for anyone reading this, I also want to mention that if you ever need to dispute a charge on the Money Network card or have issues with ATM fees, their customer service is actually pretty responsive compared to EDD. They have 24/7 support and I've never had trouble getting through to them. Just keep that number handy: 1-866-692-9374. The automatic transfer feature has been a lifesaver for me. Once you set it up, you basically forget about the whole EDD card system and just get your money deposited like a normal paycheck. Makes the whole unemployment process feel a little less degrading, if that makes sense.
Thanks for sharing your experience Darren! That's so reassuring to hear from someone who went through the same thing. I can totally relate to the obsessive mailbox checking - I was doing that multiple times a day! And you're absolutely right about it feeling less degrading once you get the automatic transfers set up. It's like getting back some sense of normalcy. I'm definitely saving that Money Network customer service number too, just in case. This whole thread has been incredibly helpful for navigating this confusing system.
This whole thread is such a perfect example of how the EDD system works - it's stressful and slow, but it does eventually work! Faith, I'm so happy your card finally arrived. For anyone else going through this wait, I just want to add that you can also check if your local EDD office has any emergency payment options if you're facing eviction or utility shutoffs. Some offices can issue temporary paper checks in genuine hardship cases, though it's not widely advertised and you usually have to ask specifically. It's worth a shot if you're really in a bind while waiting for the card. The whole process is definitely anxiety-inducing when you're dealing with bills and rent, but seeing success stories like this gives me hope that the system, despite its flaws, does get people their money eventually.
That's really valuable information about emergency paper checks! I had no idea that was even an option. It's frustrating that they don't make these kinds of alternatives more visible - I spent so many sleepless nights worrying about my rent while waiting for the card. Having that as a backup option could have saved me a lot of stress. Thanks for sharing that tip, it could really help someone who's in an even tighter spot than I was. It's amazing how much this community knows about navigating all the hidden parts of the system that EDD doesn't clearly explain anywhere.
I'm so sorry you're going through this frustrating experience with EDD! Having to pay multiple times just to get information about your missing check is absolutely ridiculous. The fact that they told you the replacement check was printed and mailed on Oct 21st but you still haven't received it after 3 weeks is unacceptable. Have you tried contacting your local assembly member's office? They often have staff dedicated to helping constituents with EDD issues and can sometimes get faster responses than calling directly. Also, you might want to file a complaint with the EDD ombudsman if you haven't already. Keep documenting everything - dates, times, who you spoke with, and what they told you. This paper trail could be important if you need to escalate further. Hang in there!
@cb53ba43b0d6 This is really solid advice! I'm dealing with similar EDD issues and didn't know about contacting assembly members for help. @26d1bb Have you tried reaching out to your local representative's office yet? I've heard they can sometimes cut through the red tape faster than going through normal EDD channels. Also seconding the documentation advice - screenshot everything, save all correspondence, and keep a detailed log. The whole system is so broken right now, but having that paper trail has helped other people I know when they had to escalate. Stay strong, this shouldn't be this hard!
This is absolutely infuriating! The fact that you've had to pay Claimyr three times for the same issue and EDD is still jerking you around is beyond unacceptable. I've been dealing with EDD nightmares myself and it's clear they're completely overwhelmed and disorganized. A few suggestions that might help: 1) Try calling EDD directly at 833-978-2511 right at 8am when they open - sometimes you can get through without using Claimyr. 2) Contact your state senator or assembly member's office - they have EDD liaisons who can sometimes force action on stuck cases. 3) File a complaint with the California State Auditor since this involves a missing payment. 4) Consider reaching out to local news stations - they love covering EDD horror stories and sometimes that public pressure gets results. Keep fighting and don't let them wear you down. You deserve that money and shouldn't have to pay third parties repeatedly just to get what's rightfully yours!
Update: I finally got through to EDD this morning after trying for 2 hours! The rep confirmed exactly what you all said - my old disability claim from 2023 was still showing as active in their system even though it ended over a year ago. They fixed it on their end and told me to go ahead and certify again. The disability questions are now gone from my certification! She said my payments should process normally now. Thanks everyone for your help!
Congrats on getting it resolved so quickly! For anyone else reading this thread with similar issues, here are a few key takeaways: 1) Never put false information in your certification even if it seems easier, 2) Keep calling EDD until you get through - persistence pays off, 3) Ask for confirmation numbers when you speak to reps, and 4) The disability/UI system overlap is a known bug that happens frequently. Your experience shows that when you actually reach a knowledgeable rep, these issues can be fixed pretty fast. Hope your payments come through smoothly now!
This is such a helpful summary! I'm bookmarking this thread because I feel like this disability/UI overlap issue is going to keep happening to people. It's crazy that EDD's systems are so outdated that they can't automatically clear old disability claims. At least now I know what to do if this happens to me in the future. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences!

I've been struggling with the same issue - it's so frustrating when you can't get through to anyone! I've tried calling multiple times but always get the busy signal or automated system that hangs up. Has anyone had success with any specific times of day that work better for getting through? I'm worried about my status and really need to speak with someone soon.

•@Jade Lopez I completely understand your frustration! I ve'been in the same boat trying to reach customer service. From what I ve'learned from others in this community, calling right when they open 8 (AM seems) to give you the best chance. Also, some people have had success using services like Claimyr that others mentioned above - they handle the calling and waiting for you. The key is persistence and trying multiple approaches. Don t'give up! Your is important and you deserve to get the help you need.

I know how incredibly frustrating this is - I went through the same thing for weeks! The automated system would just hang up on me constantly. What finally worked for me was calling at exactly 8:01 AM and using the "1-2-1" option sequence when the automated menu starts. Also, don't hang up if you get put on hold - even if it's for hours. I waited 3.5 hours once but finally got through to a real person who was able to help me with my claim. Keep trying different times throughout the day too - I've heard some people have luck around 12 PM or 2 PM when call volume might be slightly lower. Stay persistent!

•@Luca Romano Thank you so much for sharing those specific details! The 1-2-1 "sequence" tip is really helpful - I hadn t'heard about that specific option before. I m'definitely going to try calling at 8:01 AM sharp tomorrow and use that sequence. It s'encouraging to hear that persistence really does pay off, even if it means waiting for hours. I ve'been getting discouraged after just 30-45 minutes of trying, but your experience shows it s'worth sticking with it. Did you notice any difference in wait times on certain days of the week? I m'wondering if calling on a Tuesday or Wednesday might be better than Mondays when everyone is probably trying to call.
