Congratulations on your new baby and I'm so glad everything worked out smoothly for you! Your update is really helpful for other parents who might find themselves in a similar situation. It's great that you documented the process by messaging through SDI Online - that seems to have helped expedite things. Hope you're healing well and enjoying those precious early weeks with your little one! 💙
This whole thread has been incredibly informative! I'm not in this situation yet but I'm pregnant with my first and saving all this info for later. It's so reassuring to see how the community comes together to help each other navigate these complex systems. @6b519d0a2948 thank you for sharing your update - it gives me hope that the process can work smoothly when you follow the right steps!
This is such valuable information for new parents! I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant and bookmarking this entire thread for reference. It's reassuring to see that when you follow the proper steps (getting your doctor to submit the DE 2525XX form and messaging through SDI Online), the process can actually work smoothly. @6b519d0a2948 congratulations on your baby and I'm so glad your extension was approved without any payment gaps! The step-by-step advice from everyone here is exactly what expecting parents need to know. Thank you all for sharing your experiences - it really helps reduce the anxiety around navigating these benefits during such an already stressful time.
I'm so glad this thread is helping expecting parents prepare! @6b519d0a2948 your experience really shows how important it is to be proactive - getting your doctor to submit the form early and documenting everything through the online portal made all the difference. @c29a09878f54 it's smart that you're saving this info now while you have time to digest it all. When you're dealing with postpartum recovery and a newborn, having this roadmap already in your back pocket will be such a relief. Wishing you both smooth deliveries and recoveries!
Thank you all for the incredibly helpful advice! I've made a plan of action: 1. Talk to my doctor next week about completing the SDI extension paperwork with detailed functional limitations 2. Look into vocational rehabilitation services through EDD 3. Apply for CalFresh since my income will be dropping 4. If I need to call EDD and can't get through, I'll try that Claimyr service 5. File for UI as a backup plan, being clear I'm seeking work in a new field within my restrictions This community has been amazing - I was feeling pretty hopeless yesterday but now I see I have several options to explore. I'll update once I get some results!
Great plan Maya! One more thing to add - when you talk to your doctor about the SDI extension, ask them to be very specific about your functional capacity. Instead of just "can't lift heavy objects," ask for exact weight limits like "cannot lift more than 10 pounds" or "cannot stand for more than 30 minutes at a time." EDD loves specific measurable limitations rather than general statements. Also, keep copies of EVERYTHING you submit. I learned this the hard way when EDD claimed they never received my extension paperwork (even though I had proof of delivery). Having your own records saved me months of back-and-forth. You've got this - it sounds like you're being really proactive about exploring all your options!
This is such excellent advice about getting specific measurements from the doctor! I've been dealing with similar documentation issues for my own disability case and you're absolutely right - vague descriptions get rejected constantly. Maya, also consider asking your doctor to include specifics about sitting tolerance, walking distances, and any cognitive limitations from pain/medications. EDD wants to see exactly what jobs you CAN do, not just what you can't. The record-keeping tip is gold too - I scan everything to my phone immediately now after losing paperwork in their system twice.
I'm dealing with something similar right now! My SDI payments stopped suddenly in early October after 2 months of regular payments. Like you, my doctor certified me well beyond when the payments stopped, and my claim status still shows "Active" online. I've been trying the early morning calling strategy mentioned by @Ava Thompson - got through once after 45 minutes of calling at 8:02 AM, but the rep just said there was a "processing delay" with no timeline. It's so stressful when you're already dealing with health issues and then have to worry about basic expenses. I'm going to try calling my doctor's office today to see if EDD requested any additional paperwork from them. Fingers crossed we both get this resolved soon!
@Yara Sabbagh I m'so sorry you re'going through this too! It s'awful how they leave us in the dark when we re'already vulnerable. I m'definitely going to try that early morning calling strategy - 8:02 AM sounds like a good time to catch them. Let me know what your doctor s'office says about any additional paperwork requests. I m'planning to call mine tomorrow too. It really helps to know I m'not the only one dealing with this nightmare right now. Hoping we both get answers soon! 🤞
I'm new to this community but unfortunately dealing with the exact same issue! My SDI payments stopped after my September payment too, even though my doctor certified me through December. What's really frustrating is that I called my doctor's office yesterday and they confirmed they haven't received ANY requests from EDD for additional documentation. The office manager told me this has been happening to a lot of their patients lately - payments just stopping without explanation. She suggested I might need to file an appeal or contact the EDD Disability Appeals Office directly. Has anyone here tried that route? I'm wondering if there's some kind of systematic issue happening right now that's affecting multiple people. The timing can't be a coincidence that so many of us had payments stop around the same time.
Update: I called my doctor's office and confirmed they submitted the final certification with 2/25/2025 as the end date. Now I just need to make sure I submit my PFL application on 2/26. Thanks everyone for your help!
Great advice about the screenshots! I'd also recommend keeping a copy of your doctor's final certification form if you can get one. When I transitioned from SDI to PFL last year, EDD asked me to verify my SDI end date during the PFL application process, and having that documentation made it super smooth. The transition timing sounds perfect - you're doing everything right by waiting until 2/26 to apply. Congratulations on your baby, and I hope the PFL application goes smoothly for you!
This is such good advice about keeping documentation! I'm new to navigating all these benefits but it sounds like having everything documented really helps avoid headaches later. Question for you - did you have to wait long for your PFL approval after applying, or was it pretty quick since you'd already been on SDI?

Just a heads up - if you're also getting any other benefits (like workers comp), make sure to report that. It can affect your SDI amount and you don't want to deal with overpayment issues later!

Thanks for starting this thread! I'm in the same boat - just got my Notice of Computation yesterday and it's like reading a foreign language. The amount they calculated seems way different from what I was expecting based on my previous earnings. From what I can tell, they're using some quarters from way back when I was making less money instead of my recent higher-paying job. Is that normal? I thought they'd use the most recent quarters where I was earning more. Really hoping someone here can shed some light on how they actually pick which quarters to use for the calculation! 🤞

•Welcome to the confusion club! 😅 From what I understand, they don't always use your most recent quarters - they use what's called your "base period" which is usually the first 4 of the last 5 completed quarters before you filed your claim. So if you just started a higher-paying job recently, those quarters might not be included yet. It's super frustrating when you know you were earning more! You might want to double-check the dates on your notice to see exactly which quarters they used.

•@Amina Diallo That s'exactly what happened to me! They used quarters from when I was working part-time instead of my recent full-time salary. It s'so backwards! I called and they explained that they have to use completed "quarters," so if you filed mid-quarter, that quarter doesn t'count. Super annoying when you re'making good money but it doesn t'help your benefits. The system really needs an update imo 🙄
