Update: My card arrived today! It was definitely in a very plain white envelope that looked like junk mail, so I'm glad you all warned me to watch for it. I've activated it and set up the automatic transfer to my regular bank account. Thanks everyone for all your helpful advice!
Congrats on getting approved and receiving your card! Just wanted to add a few tips I learned the hard way: 1) Download the BofA Prepaid mobile app to easily check your balance and transaction history, 2) If you ever need cash, stick to BofA ATMs to avoid fees - other ATMs can charge $2-3 per withdrawal, and 3) Keep the card activation paperwork because it has important phone numbers you might need later. Also, even though you set up automatic transfers, it can take 1-2 business days for the money to show up in your regular account, so plan accordingly for urgent expenses. Glad everything worked out for you!
I'm glad to hear your brother is going to be okay! One last piece of advice: make sure he understands that SDI and workers' compensation are two different programs. Since the accident happened outside of work, he's applying for SDI. If he tells EDD it was a work injury, they'll direct him to workers' comp instead and it will delay everything. Also, once he starts feeling better, if his doctor approves him for modified/light duty but his employer can't accommodate those restrictions, he can still continue receiving SDI benefits until he's cleared for full duty or his benefit period ends.
Just wanted to add that your brother should also make sure to keep copies of EVERYTHING - the application, medical records, correspondence with EDD, etc. I learned this the hard way when EDD lost my paperwork and I had to resubmit everything. Also, if he has a smartphone, he can actually upload documents directly through the SDI Online portal which is way faster than mailing them. The photo upload feature works pretty well for medical forms and paystubs. Hope your brother heals up quickly!
Does anyone know if there's a mobile app for filing claims? The website is so not mobile-friendly, it's ridiculous.
I've been dealing with the same exact issue! What's really helped me is using multiple strategies at once. I keep the EDD site open in one tab and refresh it periodically while also trying the mobile version on my phone. Sometimes one works when the other doesn't. Also, if you haven't already, try logging in through the "UI Online" portal directly instead of going through the main EDD homepage - that sometimes bypasses whatever is causing the crashes. Don't give up, and definitely document every failed attempt with screenshots showing the error messages and timestamps. If you miss the deadline because of their technical issues, that documentation could save you later!
I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - going on 18 days without payment and still waiting for my Form 2500A to show up online. The uncertainty is really stressing me out because I have bills coming up. Has anyone had luck with the state assembly member's office? I heard they sometimes help with EDD issues when you're really stuck. Also wondering if anyone knows if there's a way to check payment status without calling - the website seems pretty basic compared to what it should be in 2024.
Hey Esteban! I'm in a really similar boat - the waiting and uncertainty is the worst part, especially when you've got bills looming. About the assembly member's office, I've heard mixed things but it might be worth a shot if you're really stuck. As for checking payment status online, yeah the EDD website is pretty bare bones. I've been refreshing my account daily but there's not much detail beyond basic claim info. Have you tried logging in early morning? Sometimes I notice updates appear then. Hang in there - hopefully we both get some movement soon! 🤞
I'm in the exact same boat - 18 days since my last payment and Form 2500A is nowhere to be found in my online account. The stress is real when you're counting on that money for basic expenses! One thing I discovered is that you can sometimes get faster responses by sending a message through your online account rather than calling. It takes 2-3 days but at least you get a written response with specifics about your case. Also, if you have any medical documentation that needs updating, make sure that's not what's holding things up - I've seen delays when doctors' offices are slow with paperwork. The waiting game is brutal but you're definitely not alone in this. Fingers crossed we all see some movement soon! 🙏

I'm new here and going through my first SDI claim - this thread is exactly what I needed! My claim ends next week and I've been losing sleep wondering about that final day payment. It's so frustrating that something this basic isn't clearly explained anywhere on the EDD website. From what everyone's saying, it sounds like I will get paid through my end date as long as I'm still disabled that day. Quick follow-up question though - when you do your final certification, do you mark that you're "able and available" for the end date if you're planning to return to work the next day? I don't want to accidentally mess up my final payment by answering incorrectly. Thanks for all the helpful info everyone!

•Welcome to the community Muhammad! For your final certification, you should mark that you are NOT able and available if you're still disabled on your end date, even if you're planning to return to work the next day. The certification is asking about your status on that specific day, not your future plans. So if your claim ends on a Friday and you're returning to work Monday, you'd still mark disabled/unable to work for Friday since that's your actual condition on that day. Only mark that you returned to work if you actually worked on the end date itself. The key is being honest about your disability status on each specific day you're certifying for. Hope this helps ease your mind about that final payment!

I'm really glad I found this thread! I'm currently on SDI and my claim ends in a few weeks, so I was having the exact same worry about whether that final day gets paid. It's such a relief to see multiple people confirm that yes, you DO get benefits for the end date listed on your claim. The EDD phone system is absolutely impossible to get through to - I've tried calling so many times and either get disconnected or sit on hold for hours. It's frustrating that such basic information isn't clearly spelled out on their website. Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences, especially those who went through this recently. Knowing that I'll get that final day's payment (about $192 based on my weekly amount) really helps with planning my budget for the transition back to work. This community is honestly more helpful than EDD customer service!
