My kids got theirs but I'm confused about something else - can this P-EBT be used the same as regular EBT? Like at farmers markets for the matching program?
Just wanted to update everyone - my cards finally came today! Both kids got separate cards, and they had different amounts ($425 for my 5-year-old and $375 for my 3-year-old). So they are definitely still sending them out. Check your mail carefully because the envelope looks like junk mail - very plain with just a PO Box return address.
thx for update! which county r u in again? hoping mine comes soon
I'm in Alameda County. Hope yours arrives soon!
did they actually confirm the theft claim??? cuz i had benefits stolen too and they kept saying they were investigating but nothing happened for like 2 months and i had to keep calling
Update from my earlier comment - if she's also missing her CalWORKs benefits, this is even more serious. The county is required to process expedited CalWORKs benefits in emergency situations. She should specifically ask about "immediate need CalWORKs" which can be issued within 3 business days when there are children in the household with no resources for basic necessities. Make sure she uses these exact terms when she gets through to someone.
Thank you again! She's making notes of all these specific terms to use. Really appreciate everyone's help. I'll update once she gets this resolved.
I want to add some clarification: While CalFresh 4.0 benefits are limited to children under 6, there are other programs that might help with your teenager. Your 16-year-old may qualify for free school meals, and some districts have expanded after-school meal programs. Also, when calculating your regular CalFresh benefits, teenagers are actually factored in at a higher rate than younger children because of their increased nutritional needs. So while there's no special supplement labeled specifically for teens, their higher food requirements are considered in your total household benefit calculation.
That's good to know about the calculation! J does get free lunch at school which definitely helps. Are there any summer programs when school is out? That's when our food costs go way up.
Wait I'm confused are these 4.0 benefits automatic? I have a 4 year old and didn't notice any extra on my EBT this month...should I be calling somebody? How much extra is it supposed to be?
Yes, the CalFresh 4.0 supplement should be automatic - it's approximately $43 per eligible child under 6 per month. If you're not seeing it on your EBT, it's worth calling your county office. Sometimes there are implementation delays or system issues that need to be addressed. Make sure to check your balance detail rather than just the total, as it might not be clearly labeled as a separate line item.
Thanks everyone for all your helpful responses! I checked and we definitely haven't received any P-EBT card yet. I'm going to try calling again, and if I can't get through, I might try that Claimyr service someone mentioned. It's frustrating because that could be several hundred dollars in food benefits we could really use right now. I'll update this post if I manage to get any answers from the P-EBT helpline!
Please do update us! One more thing to check - make sure your mailing address was correct in the CalFresh system during that eligibility period (Aug 2022-July 2023). If you moved and didn't update your address, the P-EBT card might have been sent to your old address. Unfortunately, P-EBT cards aren't forwarded by USPS like regular mail.
I'm so annoyed with the whole P-EBT system. It's been a complete mess from the beginning. My neighbor's kids got their cards months ago, but my kids who definitely qualify haven't seen anything! And when you call, you can never get through to a real person. Then they have the nerve to put expiration dates on the benefits! How is that fair when they're so inconsistent with sending the cards out? The whole thing is ridiculous.
OMG YES this!!!! the expiration dates are so unfair!!! my friend got her kids cards like 8 months b4 me and had all that time to use the benefits but i only had 2 months before some started to expire!!!!! i tried to call about it but couldnt get thru

Anyone else notice that the eligibility rules keep changing? For the first round of P-EBT in 2022 you needed like 5+ excused absences, then in 2023 it was any absences related to Covid, now in 2025 nobody seems to know what the actual criteria are. My kids' school sent home a flyer that said one thing, the website says another, and the phone reps say something completely different. And it's not like we're getting enough CalFresh to begin with in this economy...

•You're right that the rules have changed each year. For 2025, the official criteria are: - Student must be enrolled in a school participating in free/reduced meals - Must have at least 5 excused absences OR attend a school that had at least 3 days of COVID-related closures - Family must either already receive SNAP/CalFresh OR meet income eligibility requirements But there are also some special county-specific rules this year, which is creating a lot of the confusion.

Update: I finally got some answers! I talked to our school's nutrition services coordinator this morning, and she was super helpful. Turns out there was a data entry error where my daughter's student ID was entered incorrectly when they submitted records to the state. They're sending a correction form, but she said it might take 4-6 weeks to process. She also confirmed my son shouldn't be eligible based on attendance, so that's still a mystery. Thank you all for your suggestions and support - this community has been so helpful when navigating these confusing systems!
