If I could give 10 stars I would

If I could give 10 stars I would If I could give 10 stars I would Such an amazing service so needed during the times when EDD almost never picks up Claimyr gets me on the phone with EDD every time without fail faster. A much needed service without Claimyr I would have never received the payment I needed to support me during my postpartum recovery. Thank you so much Claimyr!

Really made a difference

Really made a difference, save me time and energy from going to a local office for making the call.

Worth not wasting your time calling for hours.

Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Today my call dropped because of EDD and Claimyr heard my concern on the same chat and another call was made within the hour.

An incredibly helpful service

An incredibly helpful service! Got me connected to a CA EDD agent without major hassle (outside of EDD's agents dropping calls – which Claimyr has free protection for). If you need to file a new claim and can't do it online, pay the $ to Claimyr to get the process started. Absolutely worth it!

Consistent,frustration free, quality Service.

Used this service a couple times now. Before I'd call 200 times in less than a weak frustrated as can be. But using claimyr with a couple hours of waiting i was on the line with an representative or on hold. Dropped a couple times but each reconnected not long after and was mission accomplished, thanks to Claimyr.

IT WORKS!! Not a scam!

I tried for weeks to get thru to EDD PFL program with no luck. I gave this a try thinking it may be a scam. OMG! It worked and They got thru within an hour and my claim is going to finally get paid!! I upgraded to the $60 call. Best $60 spent!

This is such a common issue lately! I'm a case worker and I've been hearing about this app freezing bug from multiple clients over the past few weeks. The EBT Edge app's freeze/unfreeze feature has definitely been unreliable since the February update. For future reference, if you ever can't get through to the EBT customer service line right away, you can also try calling early in the morning (around 7-8 AM) when call volumes are typically lower. Also, some counties have local EBT coordinators who can help with these technical issues - worth asking your caseworker if that's available in your area. Really glad to see from the comments that you got it resolved quickly! It's frustrating when technology fails us when we need it most, especially with something as essential as food benefits.

Thank you for the insight from a case worker perspective! It's really helpful to know this is a widespread issue and not just isolated incidents. I'll definitely keep the tip about calling early in the morning in mind - that's smart thinking about when call volumes would be lower. I had no idea some counties have local EBT coordinators, so I'll ask my caseworker about that at my next appointment. It's reassuring to have backup options when the technology fails. Really appreciate all the practical advice from everyone in this thread!

Just wanted to chime in as someone who's dealt with similar EBT app issues! I've learned to screenshot everything when using any of the CalFresh/EBT digital features - confirmation screens, error messages, everything. It's saved me so much hassle when calling customer service because I can tell them exactly what error I'm getting. Also, if you're ever in this situation again and need groceries urgently while waiting for tech issues to be resolved, some food banks and community pantries can provide emergency food assistance even if you're already receiving CalFresh. Just a backup option to keep in mind! Really glad everyone was able to help you get this sorted out quickly.

That's such great advice about taking screenshots! I wish I had thought of that when I was getting the error messages. Definitely going to start doing that with any government app interactions. And thank you for mentioning the food banks - I had no idea they could still help even when you're already on CalFresh. That's really good to know as a backup option. This whole thread has been so helpful, it's amazing how much practical knowledge everyone has shared!

Hey Malik! Congrats on getting approved - that's such a huge win! I just got my EBT card last month after going through the same nerve-wracking wait, so I totally feel you on the anxiety about timing. Mine took exactly 7 business days to arrive (I'm in Ventura County), and the benefits were already loaded when it got there. One thing that helped me was downloading the "MyBenefits CalWIN" app while waiting - you can actually check your case status and benefit amount there, which made me feel more in control during the waiting period. Also wanted to mention that if you're worried about groceries for next week, many food banks have weekend distributions and don't require CalFresh approval. We used one while waiting for our card and they were super understanding about the situation. The $325/month is going to be such a game changer! I remember that first shopping trip feeling almost emotional - being able to buy fresh produce without calculating every penny was incredible. You're almost there, hang tight! πŸ’ͺ

Thanks so much Chloe! That's really encouraging to hear from someone who just went through this in Ventura County - 7 days gives me hope that ours might come on the faster side too! I had no idea about the MyBenefits CalWIN app, that sounds really helpful for checking status during the wait. Just downloaded it and will definitely use that to feel more in control like you mentioned. The food bank suggestion is really practical too - it's good to know they're understanding about people waiting for their cards to arrive. We've been looking into weekend distributions as a backup plan just in case. I can't wait for that first shopping trip you described! After months of stressing over every grocery purchase and having to put things back at checkout, being able to focus on getting healthy food without calculating every penny sounds like such a relief. Thanks for sharing your experience and for the encouragement - it really helps to hear from someone who literally just went through this same situation! πŸ™

Hey Malik! Congratulations on getting approved - that's such an incredible relief! I'm actually brand new to this community but have been reading through everyone's responses and wow, what an amazingly supportive group of people sharing their experiences. I'm in a somewhat similar situation - just started my CalFresh application last week and seeing your success story gives me so much hope! The timeline everyone's sharing seems really consistent (that 7-10 day range), which is reassuring to know what to expect. I've been taking notes on all the amazing tips people have shared here - the EBT apps, farmers market programs, grocery store research, PIN setup reminders - this thread is like a goldmine of practical advice! As someone who's completely new to navigating government assistance, it's so helpful to learn from people who've actually been through the process. Also wanted to say how much I appreciate you being so open about the financial stress and anxiety around timing. It takes courage to share that vulnerability, and it's making others of us who are struggling feel less alone in this experience. Fingers crossed your card arrives super quickly! The $325/month is going to make such a difference for you both. Thanks for starting this conversation and bringing this community together to help each other! πŸ€žπŸ’™

I'm new to this community but had to jump in because I just went through the exact same thing last week at a Carl's Jr! I felt so embarrassed when my card got declined and I had to scramble for cash. Reading through all these responses has been incredibly helpful - I had no idea about the Restaurant Meals Program or that there were different eligibility requirements. It's really frustrating that this information isn't clearly explained when you first get approved for CalFresh. I'm definitely not in any of the qualifying categories (I'm 28 and housed), but at least now I understand why it happened instead of thinking there was something wrong with my card. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it makes me feel less alone in this confusing situation!

Welcome to the community! I'm so glad you found this thread helpful - it really shows how common this confusion is. I think a lot of us have been in that exact same situation at fast food places, feeling embarrassed when our cards get declined. It's definitely not just you! The lack of clear communication about these program differences is a real problem. Maybe we should all start asking for better information materials when we apply or recertify. At least now you know it wasn't anything wrong with your card or account - just a program limitation that isn't well explained. Hopefully sharing these experiences helps other newcomers avoid the same confusion!

This is such an important conversation! I'm really grateful everyone shared their experiences because I almost made the same mistake last weekend. I was at a Del Taco and saw they had an EBT sign, but after reading all these comments, I realized my regular CalFresh card wouldn't work there since I don't qualify for RMP. It's honestly a relief to know this ahead of time rather than finding out the hard way at the register. What really strikes me is how many of us have had similar experiences - it seems like this confusion happens ALL the time. Maybe we could put together some kind of simple guide or infographic that explains the difference between regular CalFresh and RMP? Something that could be shared in communities like this to help newcomers understand what to expect. The current system of learning through trial and error (and public embarrassment) really isn't working for anyone. Has anyone tried reaching out to their county office to suggest better communication about these program differences? I'm thinking maybe if enough of us request clearer information, they might actually improve how they explain things to new applicants.

That's a really great idea about creating a simple guide! I'm also pretty new here and this whole thread has been a lifesaver. I was literally about to try using my EBT at a McDonald's tomorrow, but now I know it won't work since I'm just on regular CalFresh. Your suggestion about reaching out to county offices is spot on. I wonder if we could even work together as a community to draft something and then each contact our respective counties? Like a unified effort to push for clearer communication. It's honestly ridiculous that so many of us have to learn about these important program differences through embarrassing trial and error. I'd definitely be willing to help put together that kind of informational resource if others are interested. Even just a one-page "CalFresh vs RMP Quick Guide" could save so many people from the awkward decline situation we've all been through!

Update: My mom got the cake yesterday with no problems! It was $26.99 and she used her EBT card without any issues. They did make her pay separately for the candles and a small decoration we added. Thanks everyone for your help! πŸŽ‚

That's wonderful news about the cake working out! Just wanted to add for anyone else reading this thread - if you're ever unsure about what's EBT-eligible, most stores have customer service desks that can check items beforehand so you don't have to worry about embarrassment at checkout. Also, Sam's Club and Costco both have pretty clear signage in their bakery sections about EBT eligibility, which is super helpful. Hope Sophia had an amazing 8th birthday party! πŸŽ‰

That's such a helpful tip about checking with customer service first! I wish I had known that when I first started using EBT - would have saved me so much anxiety about what I could and couldn't buy. It's really reassuring to know that stores like Sam's Club are making an effort to clearly mark what's eligible. And yes, happy belated birthday to Sophia! πŸŽ‚ It sounds like everything worked out perfectly for her special day.

This thread is such a perfect example of why this community is so valuable! @Jordan Walker, I'm really glad you got everything sorted out through your BenefitsCal account. As someone who went through CalFresh application about a year ago, I had almost the exact same experience - the excitement of getting the card followed by the panic of seeing $0! What really helped me was learning that you can actually call the EBT customer service line and ask them to confirm your issuance date over the phone if you can't find your paperwork. They're usually much easier to reach than the county offices. Also, I wish someone had told me earlier that you can set up balance alerts through the ebtEDGE app - it sends you a notification as soon as your benefits load each month, which takes all the guesswork out of it. Those three questions from @Dyllan Nantx about issuance date, benefit amount, and expedited services are absolutely golden - I'm definitely sharing those with my sister who's applying next month. It's frustrating that such crucial information gets missed during approval calls, but at least we have this amazing community to fill in those gaps. Welcome to CalFresh, and I hope your first shopping trip goes smoothly!

This whole thread has been so educational and reassuring! As someone who just submitted my CalFresh application last week, I'm taking notes on everything shared here. @Jordan Walker, I can only imagine how stressful that must have been - waiting months for approval only to think something went wrong with your card! It's such a relief that you found your approval letter in BenefitsCal and got it all figured out. Those three questions from @Dyllan Nantx are going to be game-changers for my approval call - I'm writing them down right now! It's honestly shocking how such important details like issuance dates get missed during those conversations, but this community is amazing for filling in all those gaps. I had no idea about the BenefitsCal portal having approval letters before they arrive by mail, or about the ebtEDGE app notifications. Even things like timing grocery shopping around store sales cycles - this thread is like a complete guide to navigating CalFresh successfully! Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences and practical tips. It's incredible how one person's confusion turned into such a valuable resource for all of us new to the system.
